Weezer Bassist Mikey Welsh ‘Predicted’ His Death on Twitter

J. Shearer/WireImage(CHICAGO) -- Ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, who was found dead in a Chicago hotel room Saturday afternoon, apparently predicted his own death over Twitter two weeks beforehand.

Welsh, who played bass for the rock band from 1998 to 2001, was in Chicago to see Weezer play, and oddly tweeted two weeks prior that he dreamed he would die while in Chicago from a heart attack in his sleep.

“Dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today,” Welsh tweeted on Sept. 26.

Police do not suspect any foul play, but no cause of death has been determined yet.  His body was found by hotel staff after he failed to check out of his room at the Raffaello Hotel, authorities said.  He was found unresponsive and on the floor, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Welsh was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and narcotic use is suspected as the cause of death, the Tribune reported.

Welsh, who was 40 years old at the time of his death, left the highly successful band after suffering a nervous breakdown. Since leaving the band behind he worked as an artist.

Ex-Weezer Band Member Mikey Welsh Found Dead in Chicago Hotel

J. Shearer/WireImage(CHICAGO) -- Mikey Welsh, former Weezer bass player, was found dead in a Chicago hotel room Saturday afternoon, according to several media reports.

Welsh, 40, was found by hotel staff after he failed to check out of his room at the Raffaello Hotel, authorities said.

He was found unresponsive and on the floor, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Welsh was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and narcotics are suspected as the cause of death, the Tribune reported.

Autopsy results are expected to be available this afternoon.

Welsh was in Chicago to attend Weezer’s performance at Riot Fest Sunday.

Band members and fans turned to the internet and social networking sites to express their grief over the sudden news.

“It saddens me and the guys in Weezer so much to say that our beautiful, creative, hilarious and sweet friend Mikey Welsh has passed away at the very young age of 40,” read a statement on Weezer’s website.  “A unique talent, a deeply loving friend and father, and a great artist is gone, but we will never forget him. His chapter in the Weezer story (’98 – ’01) was vital, essential, wild, and amazing,” his former band members said as part of a statement on their blog.

Welsh, originally from Burlington, Vt., performed with Weezer from 1998 to 2001.

He reportedly left the group after experiencing a nervous breakdown, according to Weezer’s website.  He later took on a second career as an artist.

Weezer Covers Toni Braxton's 'Unbreak My Heart'

Photo Courtesy - Epitaph(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- Weezer's forthcoming album, Death to False Metal, features songs that were recorded for their earlier albums but never made the final cut.  One of those tracks is a cover of Toni Braxton's smash R&B hit, "Unbreak My Heart," which is currently available for download at the band's website.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo told AmericanSongwriter.com that the cover, which was recorded back in 2005 for their album Make Believe, "was actually [producer] Rick Rubin's suggestion."  He admitted that he and Rubin both loved the song and that "we both thought it would be great for Weezer, and for my voice, and it’d be great to do like a rock version of it with more of an alternative aesthetic."

Death to False Metal will be in stores on Nov. 2 along with a re-issued version of Pinkerton.  Weezer's upcoming Memories tour kicks off on Nov. 26 in Los Angeles.
