LENNART PREISS/AFP/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The stars of this year's edition of VH1 Divas celebrated the music of the late Donna Summer and Whitney Houston on Sunday night, and paid tribute to the divas of dance, including Blondie and Madonna.

Demi Lovato opened the show at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium with a somber dedication to the victims of Friday’s shootings in Newtown, Conn.

Here are some of the show's musical highlights:

-- Host Adam Lambert got things under way with a cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” after having been put through his “diva” paces by NeNe Leakes and Paula Abdul in his dressing room during a sketch.

-- The newly-engaged Kelly Clarkson flashed her ring as she performed her single, “Catch My Breath.”

-- Ciara showed off her dance moves with a tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean," before breaking into her own “Got Me Good.”

-- Sheila E introduced a video montage of hits by Donna Summer as the show remembered the disco diva, who passed away in May. Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson and Adam Lambert then sang a medley of Summer’s songs, including “Love to Love You Baby,”  “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard for the Money,” “Last Dance" and “Hot Stuff.”

-- Kelly Osbourne introduced a tribute to Blondie by saying, “I always admired my dad but I really wanted to be Debbie Harry.” Canadian pop-rockers Metric played “Heart of Glass,” led by singer Emily Haines in front of a Parallel Lines black and white backdrop.

-- Miley Cyrus boosted her pop-rock-goddess cred, dressed in leather and studs for a raunchy version of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.”

-- There was a version of Deee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart” by Natasha Bedingfield, Iggy Azalea and Parliament-Funkadelic bass player Bootsy Collins, who played on the original track.

-- Glee’s Amber Riley introduced clips of Madonna’s greatest hits. Adam Lambert then hit the stage with his version of “Ray of Light.”

-- The tribute to Whitney Houston, who died in February, was introduced by Brandy. A medley of Houston’s songs, including “I’m Every Woman,” I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “It’s Not Right but it’s Okay” and “How Will I Know,” was performed by Jordin Sparks, Melanie Fiona and Ledisi.

-- The show also featured performances by Demi Lovato, Paloma Faith and Pitbull, who gave a shout-out to the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, who perished in a plane crash last week. House DJ Havana Brown kept the wheels spinning throughout the night.

Cissy Houston and Bobbi Kristina Reach Agreement on Whitney's Fortune

Jason Merritt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Whitney Houston's mother has reportedly reached an agreement with Bobbi Kristina as to how her mother's multi-million dollar fortune will be paid to her, TMZ reports.

Cissy and Pat Houston, who are both co-executors of Whitney's estate, filed papers in an attempt to change the way Whitney's money would be paid out to her daughter because they felt it was "too much, too soon," TMZ says. Bobbi Kristina was initially supposed to receive an estimated $20 million in three payments: $2 million at age 21, $4 million at age 25 and the remaining $16 million at age 30.

But Bobbi and Cissy have reportedly reached an agreement, and sources say the original plan was hardly unchaged, according to TMZ.

"Sparkle" Was Whitney Houston's 'Last Gift to Us'

TriStar Pictures(NEW YORK) -- To remake Sparkle, a film considered a cult classic, is a tough feat.  And the pressure is not lost on the cast of Sparkle, due in theaters Friday.

British actress Carmen Ejogo, who plays Sister, refused to see the original before diving into her role as a sexy singer looking for a way out of 1960s Detroit.

We tried "to make our own fresh classic," she told ABC News Radio Tuesday at the New York City premiere.  "And I feel like we've done that.  I really feel like we've made a modern classic...let's allow that cult classic to exist."

Still, for many moviegoers, it will be their very first time seeing the story of three sisters who try to make it in the music industry, but get derailed by drugs, heartbreak and their own insecurities.

Jordin Sparks portrays the title character, Sparkle, who has a gift of songwriting despite her mother's discouragement, and ultimately finds her voice without her family as a crutch.  It's Sparks' film debut, and she didn't want to disappoint her cast mates.

"I memorized the script backwards and forwards.  I knew my lines.  I knew everybody else's lines.  I knew their exits and entrances and that's really what helped me as soon as I got there," Sparks told ABC News Radio.  "I’ve never done this before so...I was kind of just flying by the seat of my pants."

Sparks plays a naive wide-eyed teenager who eventually gets her heart broken, which only strengthens her own resolve to make it as a star.

"Because she was so 'green' she didn't even know when to ask for extra takes," recalled her co-star Omari Hardwick, lovingly.  "She basically just used her natural charm and natural ability."

But even as a new actress she wasn't the one scared of those tough kissing scenes.  It was her leading man, Derek Luke, who plays an ambitious manager, Stix, who discovers the girls, who got butterflies on set.

"I'm the one that was pretty nervous," Luke admitted.  "I'm the one that didn't want to do the scenes."

Still, it was prayer, led by the late Whitney Houston, who also produced the film, that calmed any nerves the actors might have felt.

"I definitely requested a couple of prayers be led," Hardwick said.  "It speaks to the tonality of how she dealt with everybody.  She was the momma hen, and the auntie, and the sister, and the friend."

"She treated us like her children," Tika Sumpter added.

And in Houston's last film, one she tried for 10 years to create, the message is to simply follow your dreams -- a mantra the singing diva lived to her last day.

"If she was here it'd be an even bigger party," Ejogo told ABC News Radio at the film's premiere.  "This was her last gift to all of us."

Bobby Brown Is ‘in a Good Place,' Attorney Says

Tiffany Rose/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Bobby Brown admitted himself into rehab last week, as part of his plea deal following his DUI arrest in March.

“Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously and admitted himself three weeks after concluding his honeymoon in Mexico during a break from the New Edition tour,” his attorney Christopher Brown told ABC News in a statement. “Bobby is doing well and receiving services that comply with his agreement with the State of California.”

The New Edition singer was arrested for driving under the influence and using his cell phone on a public way without a headset one month after his ex Whitney Houston died. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation and ordered to complete a 90-day alcohol education program.

His latest stint in rehab comes less than eight weeks after he wed his second wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, in Hawaii. She has given him her blessing.

“Bobby’s children and loved ones are very proud of him,” Etheredge-Brown, his wife and manager, told ABC News in the statement. “We appreciate his fans’ prayers and well wishes.  Bobby is mentally in a good place.”

Brown has long struggled with alcohol and drug abuse.

Prior to his March arrest, Brown was charged with alcohol and drug-related offenses, and in a 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Houston memorably detailed the cocaine and marijuana she and Brown did together. Cocaine was also linked to Houston’s sudden death in February.

But Brown told the Today show in May that he was not the reason Houston’s gone. “I didn’t get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney … I smoked weed and drank beer … but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs,” he said, adding that he hadn’t touched narcotics in seven years.

Bobby Brown Back in Rehab?

Gilbert Carrasquillo/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Less than eight weeks after he wed his second wife in Hawaii, Bobby Brown is reportedly in rehab for alcohol addiction.

Gossip website TMZ quoted sources close to the New Edition singer saying that he admitted himself to a treatment facility because “he realized he couldn’t do it on his own.”

Brown’s rep did not respond immediately to ABC News’ request for comment.

Brown has long struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. He was arrested for a DUI in March, one month after his ex Whitney Houston died. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation and ordered to complete a 90-day alcohol education program.

Prior to that, Brown was charged with drug-related offenses, and in a 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Houston memorably detailed the cocaine and marijuana she and Brown did together.

According to TMZ, Brown has entered rehab because he “decided that he needed help and wants to make the best out of the rest of his life for his children’s sake.”

Brown wed girlfriend Alicia Etheridge in Honolulu in June. Prior to their engagement in May 2010 Brown and Etheridge dated for three years following Brown’s split with Whitney Houston in 2007. The couple have one child together, Cassius, born in 2009.

He had one child with Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Bobbi Kristina Kissing Adopted Brother

@REALbkBrown(LOS ANGELES) -- Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, appears to be getting even closer to her adopted brother Nick Gordon.

Bobbi Kristina posted a photo on Aug. 10 to her Instagram account of the pair kissing. The aspiring actress also showed off a diamond sparkler on her ring finger, which she has been spotted wearing since her mother’s death earlier this year.

“1 of the main reasons why i even smile today.:) iloveyoubooboo , forever&always. “it’s just US now”..@Nickdgordon {<3},” she tweeted alongside the photo.

Earlier that day, Bobbi Kristina posted a photo of the pair embracing, tweeting, “& still through those trials&tribulations the devil kept on trying to break them& soon realized… He couldn’t.”

On Aug. 8, what would have been the eve of Houston’s 49th birthday, the pair got matching tattoos of Houston’s initials and four doves.

The pair sparked dating reports earlier this year when they were spotted holding hands, with Bobbi Kristina again sporting her mom’s diamond sparkler on her ring finger.

Gordon told ABC News in March that they were not dating.

“We’re just close — just going through her mom’s passing and grieving together,” he said.

Gordon was first noticed at Houston’s funeral, sitting alongside Bobbi Kristina. According to sources close to the family and a TMZ report, Houston invited Gordon to live with her more than 10 years ago after learning that his birth mother could no longer care for him.

A source close to Houston told ABC News in March that Gordon was never legally adopted by the singer nor was he left anything in her will. Instead, Houston left her entire estate to her only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who has to wait until she’s 30 to inherit everything.

Whitney Houston Remembered on 49th Birthday

Gabriel Olsen/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- Friends, family and fans of Whitney Houston are remembering the late singer on Thursday, recognizing what would have been her 49th birthday.  Nearly six months have passed since that February day when Houston, the most awarded female music artist of all time, died in her Los Angeles hotel room at the age of 48.

This week would have been particularly special for Whitney.  Trailers and posters for Sparkle, the film remake that Whitney stars in alongside Jordin Sparks, herald the movie's August 17 release, just weeks away.  The Sparkle debut will give Whitney fans a chance to see and hear her once more.

Following her death, lovers of "The Voice" -- as Whitney was called -- quickly snapped up copies of her music.  Though her Whitney: The Greatest Hits album came out in 2000, a sales spike after her passing put the compilation at #4 on Billboard's mid-year list of top-selling albums.  The Whitney: The Greatest Hits set has sold 818,000 units to date in 2012, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

As for Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, she's followed in her mother's footsteps into the entertainment world.  Movie mogul Tyler Perry cast the young actress in his TBS comedy show Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse, and later gushed that Bobbi Kris had done a "fantastic job" on set. Whitney's only daughter with R&B singer Bobby Brown also got a tattoo in honor of her mother's birthday -- the letters WH surrounded by doves, according to her Twitter feed.
