(TAMPA, Fla.) -- Randy "Macho Man" Savage, one of the World Wrestling Federation's most famous faces of the 1980s, has died.
The flamboyant pro-wrestling icon born Randall Mario Poffo is believed to have suffered a heart attack behind the wheel of his Jeep in Tampa, Fla., before crashing it head-on into a tree Friday morning.
Savage, also known for his appearances in Slim Jim beef jerky commercials, and in a small role in 2002's Spider-Man, was 58.
In a statement provided to ABC News, World Wrestling Entertainment said it was "saddened" to learn of Savage's passing, and called him "one of the greatest Superstars of his time."
"Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn," the company said. "Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans."
