Wyclef Jean Shot in Hand in Haiti

ABC News(PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti) -- Hip-hop star Wyclef Jean is recovering after suffering a gunshot wound to the hand Saturday in Haiti.

The Haitian singer was reportedly wounded by a bullet around 11 p.m. in Port-au-Prince, and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for Jean described the injury as a minor graze to the hand, and said that Jean was treated and released from the hospital, and that he is fine.

The shooting occurred the day before Haiti’s presidential election. Jean is in the country to support presidential candidate Michel Martelly.

“Wyclef's commitment to his native country and to his people is unparalleled. He is therefore undeterred by this incident,” said Jean’s spokesperson Cindy Tanenbaum in a statement.

On Twitter, a tweet from the singer’s account said, “We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers -- Management”
