L.A. Reid to Step Down as "X Factor" Judge

Nino Munoz / FOX(LOS ANGELES) -- Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid will not be returning for season three of The X Factor, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The reality TV judge is quitting the Fox talent show to focus more on developing new and signed musicians.

Reid says, “I have the utmost respect for Simon Cowell. He is the very best, and I have had the opportunity to learn so much from working with him."

"Working with him on X Factor has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he continued. "I’m honored to have sat on a panel with such incredible talent.”

The music executive has served as an X Factor judge since the show’s inception, and is just one week away from mentoring season-two contestant Tate Stevens in the finale.  At the start of the season, Reid made it clear that he wasn’t happy being given the Over 25’s group to look after.

Reid says that he will miss the show but is looking forward to “getting back to my core business and the responsibility of running Epic Records.”

It is unclear if Demi Lovato and Britney Spears will be returning for season three of The X Factor, which will air in 2013.

Report: Britney Spears Signing $15 Million 'X Factor' Deal

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) -- According to TMZ, Britney Spears has struck a deal with the producers of The X Factor that will pay the singer 15 million dollars to join the show as a judge next season.

The gossip site says "the fine points" of the deal are still being worked out, but the broad strokes are done. If the contracts are finalized, they will then have to be approved by Britney's father Jamie, who is her conservator, and lawyers for the conservatorship.  At that point, the judge overseeing the conservatorship will have to approve.

Sources tell the website it's a "virtual certainty" that all involved will sign off on the deal.

Show creator and executive producer Simon Cowell told TMZ on Tuesday he'd be thrilled if Britney came aboard, saying, "I would love to have her on the show. I think she would be a fascinating person to sit next to."  Cowell said the show may make an announcement within the week.

Britney will fill one of two vacant seats formally occupied by Nicole Scherzinger, who reportedly earned $1.5 million as an X Factor judge, and Paula Abdul, who reportedly earned $2.5 million.

Ray Mickshaw/FOX via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Big changes at The X Factor.  Fox has confirmed to ABC News Radio that both host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger will not be returning to the music talent show for a second season.
Jone broke the news of his departure on Twitter, writing, "I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I cant complain as I've had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show."  Jones had been criticized for his “wooden” delivery on the show.

Paula Abdul may also be gone from the show. E! News reports Fox has informed Abdul that she will not be retained. A source says, "Simon wants to take the show in a different direction." If true, only Simon and L.A. Reid would return to the judges' panel.

Parents Group Filing Complaint over Pants-Dropping 'X Factor' Contestant

George Doyle/Stockbyte/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- Paula Abdul wasn't the only one who felt queasy over the male X Factor contestant who pulled his pants down on last week's series premiere.

The Parents Television Council says it is filing a formal broadcast indecency complaint with the Federal Communications Commission over the segment, in which Geo Godley dropped trou, causing Abdul to leave the set, audibly gagging.  The show censored Godley's midsection, so it wasn't made clear whether or not his genitals were exposed.

Regardless, the PTC argued in a statement, "If Godley performed his act in public, he would have been arrested.  But if he performs it in front of a Fox camera, his act is beamed via the public airwaves into every home in the nation."

It says X Factor producers chose to air the segment despite knowing "full well that children would be watching."

Godley himself has told E! News that he was wearing a G-string at the time and was not naked from the waist down.
