"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" in Theaters Friday

Sony/Columbia(NEW YORK) -- The summer movie season begins Friday with the release of what will likely be one of the highest-grossing films of the year: The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Andrew Garfield reprises his role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the 2012 flick. This time, he faces off against Electro, the alter ego of Max, an engineer for Oscorp who has an accident that turns him into the electricity-generating bad guy. Jamie Foxx plays Max/Electro.

Electro isn't the only character new to the sequel. Dane DeHaan fills the role of Harry Osborn, the leader of Oscorp and the future Green Goblin. And Paul Giamatti arrives as another villain, the Rhino.

Amid all of Spider-Man's problems as a superhero, the film continues to explore Peter Parker's relationship with Gwen Stacy. Garfield's real-life girlfriend, Emma Stone, returns as Gwen.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is screening in 3D and IMAX 3D, is rated PG-13.
