ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Oscars on Sunday night pulled in its biggest audience in three years.

The ABC telecast of the awards show was seen by 40.3 million viewers, an increase of one million from last year's ceremony.

It was the most-watched awards show of the past two months, topping the Golden Globes and Grammys.

Argo won the Oscars' top prize, best picture.  Lincoln's Daniel Day-Lewis and Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence received the prizes for best actor and best actress, respectively.

This year's Oscars ceremony was hosted by Seth MacFarlane, whose off-color jokes earned mixed reviews.

ABC's eighth annual post-Oscars Jimmy Kimmel Live special drew an audience of 5.79 million viewers.  It ranks as Jimmy Kimmel's most-watched post-Oscars telecast to date.

The latest edition featured guests Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, plus the premiere of the spoof movie trailer Movie: The Movie: 2V.
