"The Voice" Finale Trumps "The X Factor" Finale in Ratings

Trae Patton/NBC(NEW YORK) -- The ratings for last week's primetime programming proved The Voice was the most popular singing competition of the fall season.

The fifth-season finale of the NBC series, won by Adam Levine's protégé Tessanne Chin, scored 14 million viewers on Tuesday night, Dec. 17.  Compare that to the third-season finale of Fox's The X Factor, which aired two nights later and earned just 6.2 million viewers.  The future of The X Factor remains unclear.

The most-watched program for the week ending Sunday was the CBS drama NCIS, which drew 19.7 million viewers.

CBS averaged the most primetime viewers of any broadcast network for the week. NBC was second, followed by ABC, Fox, Univision, Telemundo, ION Television and the CW.

Here are the top 10 primetime network and cable programs for the week of Dec. 16-22, according to the Nielsen Company:

1. NCIS, CBS, 19.7 million.
2. NBC Sunday Night Football: Chicago at Philadelphia, NBC, 18.3 million.
3. NCIS: Los Angeles, CBS, 15.6 million.
4. NFL: Baltimore at Detroit, ESPN, 14.2 million.
5. The Voice (Tuesday), NBC, 14 million.
6. Sunday Night NFL Pre-Kickoff, NBC, 13.6 million.
7. The Voice, NBC, 12.7 million.
8. Person of Interest, CBS, 12.4 million.
9. 60 Minutes, CBS, 12 million.
10. The Big Bang Theory, CBS, 11.3 million.
