(NEW YORK) -- The first trailer for the second film in The Hobbit trilogy is now available for your viewing pleasure.
The trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is notable mainly for the introduction of Smaug, a dragon brought to life via motion capture by Star Trek Into Darkness actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
In the final seconds of the two-minute clip, Smaug emerges and has its eye on Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins, teasing a confrontation between the two.
Also featured in the trailer are Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly as elves Legolas and Tauriel, respectively.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug debuts on Dec. 13. The final Hobbit film, There and Back Again, debuts in December of 2014.
Director Peter Jackson's first Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opened last December and made over $300 million at the domestic box office.
