Tuesday Marks Fourth Anniversary of Michael Jackson's Death

Kevin Mazur/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Michael Jackson’s personal life was often surrounded by controversy, and drama continues to envelop the Jackson family four years after the King of Pop's death.

As fans on Tuesday mark the four-year anniversary of Jackson’s passing, his mother Katherine continues to pursue a multi-million dollar lawsuit over her son’s death and his daughter Paris remains hospitalized after an alleged suicide attempt.

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50.

At the time of his death, Jackson had been preparing for his This Is It series of concerts in London.

The doctor who was by Michael's side on the day he died, Conrad Murray, was convicted in November of 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for administering a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol to the King of Pop. Michael had been using the drug as a sleeping aid.

Murray was sentenced to four years in prison.  He has filed an appeal of his conviction.

In late April of this year, a trial began in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Katherine Jackson against This Is It promoter AEG Live. In her 40-billion-dollar lawsuit, she claims AEG contributed to her son's death by hiring Murray. The trial is ongoing.

Katherine is the guardian of Michael's three kids. His lone daughter, 15-year-old Paris, was hospitalized earlier this month after cutting herself with a knife in an alleged suicide attempt. She's currently receiving treatment at UCLA Medical Center.

Years after his death, Michael's legacy as a groundbreaking artist has lived on through the This Is It concert documentary and soundtrack, the 25th-anniversary reissue of his classic album Bad, and a couple of Cirque du Soleil productions. Last month, Cirque du Soleil opened its latest Michael Jackson-themed show, ONE, in Las Vegas.
