'Water for Elephants,' Latest 'Madea' Film, 'African Cats' Open Friday

Comstock Images/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Here's a look at the new movies opening nationwide Friday:

-- Water for Elephants: Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Robert Pattinson plays a veterinary student in the 1930s who falls in love with a circus performer, played by Reese Witherspoon.  Christoph Waltz also stars.  Rated PG-13.

-- Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family: Tyler Perry reprises his signature character -- the elderly, no-nonsense Madea -- who tries to reunite her niece Shirley with Shirley's three adult children, all of whom are dealing with personal problems.  Rated PG-13.

-- African Cats: The Disneynature documentary, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, follows a lion cub named Mara, a lion named Fang, and a cheetah named Sita in Africa.  The film's release coincides with Earth Day.  Rated G.
