Blizzard Warning in Effect for Iowa

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for much of Iowa, including the Des Moines metro area.

The blizzard warning means highly reduced visibility is expected, with gusts of 35 miles per hour or more and heavy snow for three or more hours. The warning started Tuesday at 10 a.m. and will end Wednesday at 12 p.m. for much of the state. With high winds, snow accumulation could be more hazardous due to drifts.

Travelers can also check the latest road conditions by visiting www.511ia.org or calling (511) 288-1047 (outside Iowa).
