MSU Survey Finds Gov. Snyder Falling out of Favor

(LANSING, Mich.) -- Gov. Rick Snyder's approval rating fell 13 percent according to Michigan State University's State of the State Survey, the school announced Friday.

Snyder's rating for the spring/summer survey was 31.5 percent, down from 44.5 percent in March. Charles Ballard, an economics professor at MSU and director of the survey, says Snyder had trouble pleasing everyone with his latest budget initiatives.

“Snyder’s budget provided a tax cut for businesses, but it also involved tax increases for retirees, as well as substantial spending reductions," Ballard told MLive.com. "Moreover, the economy appears to have hit a flat spot.”

Ballard said despite a positive swing in employment during the first four months of Snyder's reign in office, Michigan's jobless rate is up again for the second month in a row.

The survey polled 947 residents and had a margin of error of 3.2 percent.
