Six Michigan Schools Get 'Safe Routes to School' Grants

(LANSING, Mich.) -- Some six schools in five Michigan counties will benefit from grants aimed at promoting walking and biking to school, the state's Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grants are being awarded to the following schools: Berrien Springs Middle School, Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary School, Frankfort Elementary School, Maple Valley Junior/Senior High School, Palmer Elementary School and Sylvester Elementary School.

SRTS funds enable schools to make infrastructure improvements and offer educational activities to encourage students to safely walk and bicycle to school.
