'The Big House' on Track to Get Liquor License for Winter Classic
(LANSING, Mich.) -- The Michigan House has approved the sale of alcohol for the NHL's Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium. The game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will take place on January 1, 2013. Michigan Stadium is home to the University of Michigan football team.
The Winter Classic could break the record for biggest attendance for a hockey game. The current record was set at Michigan Stadium, when 104,173 people attended a Michigan-Michigan State game in 2010.
The Michigan Senate now must approve the sale of alcohol for the game. Alcohol is not sold during Michigan football games.
