West Nile Virus Detected in Two Michigan Counties

(LANSING, Mich.) -- West Nile Virus activity has been detected in two Michigan counties over the past week, and health officials are urging state residents to take the necessary steps to prevent the virus from spreading.

According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, a mosquito pool sample collected by the Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission in mid-June tested positive for the virus. A wild turkey in Washtenaw County also tested positive.

Residents across the state are being asked take precautions such as applying mosquito repellents and draining standing water around their homes.
