Doctor Celebrates Milestone in Bloodless Treatment

Photo Courtesy - Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA, Penn.) – A doctor who pioneered the use of bloodless treatment has celebrated her 100th treatment of “bloodless” transplant patients.

Dr. Patricia Ford, the director of the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery, developed her methods more than 15 years ago before she performed the world’s first no-transfusion stem-cell transplant.

"People think I'm doing something mystical or magical," Ford said.

Her techniques were developed to allow Jehovah Witnesses to undergo surgeries that their faith would otherwise not allow because they would typically require blood transfusions.
