Pediatric Vaccines Still Under Suspension in Japan

Creatas Images/Thinkstock(TOKYO) -- Japanese health officials have announced Tuesday that they would continue the suspension of two pediatric vaccines following reports that four children had died shortly after immunizations had been administered.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare assembled a panel of experts, which found no evidence of a causal relationship between Pfizer's Prevnar and Sanofi Pasteur's ActHIB but said more analysis may be necessary.

The ministry suspended use of both vaccines Monday after the deaths, which occurred last week.

All four children reportedly received Prevnar and only three had been given ActHIB.

Both manufacturers of the suspended vaccinations are cooperating with the investigation.
