Seven-Year-Old Saves Mother With Heimlich Maneuver

iStock/Thinkstock(GRESHAM, Ore.) -- A 7-year-old girl in Gresham, Oregon--near Portland--saved her mother's life Friday afternoon.

Amira Thorton was watching TV when she heard her mother choking. The little girl rushed over and performed the Heimlich maneuver until her mother was able to breathe again.

Amira's mom, Jennifer, said she could've died if her daughter hadn't given her the Heimlich maneuver. "It was pretty scary because there was nobody else here, and I couldn't talk, I couldn't, I was just in shock," she said.

Amira said she learned the maneuver from her grandfather and from the movie Mrs. Doubtfire.
