Sociologist Dismisses Men's Lust for Trophy Wives

iStock/Thinkstock(NOTRE DAME, Ind.) -- Men with money may desire a so-called “trophy wife” but a University of Notre Dame sociologist contends that such a woman really doesn’t exist.

In fact, Elizabeth McClintock says that it’s basically a myth that wealthy guys will overlook all other attributes as long as their spouse is conspicuously beautiful while a “trophy wife” really doesn't care what her husband looks like as long as he’s loaded.

McClintock based her findings by interviewing young married couples on what attracted each partner to the other.

Overall, good-looking people will gravitate to one another as do people who are successful professionally.

While it’s true that men of a certain upper-income status tend to have good-looking wives, McClintock says that it’s mainly because they too are regarded as better than average looking.

What seems to be happening more often is wealthy men pairing off with women who are doing well on their own professionally. The fact that they might be very attractive as well is an added perk.
