(PITTSBURGH) -- The grocery chain Giant Eagle is recalling eight ounce packages of shredded iceberg lettuce after a routine test turned up listeria, the same bacterium responsible for killing at least 23 people in the Jensen Farms cantaloupe outbreak.
There have been no illnesses reported from the lettuce. The company says the affected produce has a “use by” date of October 14.
Giant Eagle’s website says it operates “more than 200 stores... throughout Western Pennsylvania, Central and Northern Ohio, Northern West Virginia and Western Maryland.”
The company says it is using “loyalty card purchase history data” to contact customers who bought the lettuce.
