Infant Teething Tablets Recalled, Contain Belladonna

Photo Courtesy - Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- An over-the-counter teething remedy for children has been recalled after the Food and Drug Administration received reports of "serious adverse events in children taking this product."

Hyland's Teething Tablets contain trace amounts of belladonna, which can be used as a remedy, but when too much is consumed, it becomes a dangerous poison.  Hyland's tablets contain what the FDA calls "inconsistent" amounts.  There have been reports of children taking more than the recommended amount of the over-the-counter homeopathic remedy. The FDA says the packaging is not child-proof.

Hyland's Teething Tablets are sold in retail stores and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or efficacy.  The agency says it is not aware of any clinical benefits.
