(TORONTO) -- Why are people so happy early in the morning when you prefer the nightlife?
If you notice, most of those blissful folks are 60 years of age or older.
University of Toronto researchers say a study of 700 adults, one group between the ages of 17 and 38, the other aged 59 to 79, reveals that virtually everybody in the older group considers themselves a morning person while almost all the young folks are night owls.
As far as why the elderly seem happier with their lot in life, researchers believe it has to do with their biological clock.
Study researcher Renee Bliss says, "We found that older adults reported greater positive emotion than younger adults, and older adults were more likely to be morning type-people than younger adults."
Getting up earlier is also associated with better health, Bliss and her team discovered.
It's possible that people are happier in the earlier hours because they're satisfying societal expectations.
