Police Search for Man in Armed Robbery

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) -- Authorities are looking for a man accused of armed robbery at a North Knoxville fast-food restaurant Wednesday night.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, police responded to a robbery report at Burger King on North Broadway just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect had apparently entered the restaurant and demanded cash while brandishing a handgun.

The suspect fled the store on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. 

According to the News-Sentinel, no one was injured during the incident.

Victim in Fatal Car Crash Identified

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) -- A man, who was killed when his car flipped and landed in a small pond, was identified by authorities on Tuesday.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Richard Allen, 55, died after his Saturn Vue hit an embankment, rolled over and landed in the pond near the 2800 block of Luther Catlett Circle.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the News-Sentinel, Allen was the only passenger in the car.

While blood tests have been requested, it is not certain whether alcohol or drugs factored into the accident.

Former Police Chief Arrested for Stealing $10K of City Property

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) -- A retired police chief was arrested on Tuesday after stealing more than $10,000 worth of city property, including a pair of street sweepers.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Bobby Pate, the former chief of the Memphis Police Department, was indicted after a search of his home found city equipment that had been missing for as long as three years.

In addition to the street sweepers, Pate had reportedly stolen a John Deere tractor, two laptops and a trestle hoist, according to the Commercial Appeal.

Pate, 64, retired as chief of police in 2012. He was charged with theft and official misconduct.

Update: Missing Cookeville Child Found Safe in Memphis

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) -- An Endangered Child Alert has been cancelled, after a missing infant from Cookeville was found safe in Memphis.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the alert was cancelled after 5-month-old Ronald Flanigan was handed over to authorities by a family member. The child remains in state custody.

The alert was issued after Flanigan went missing, and was believed to be in the custody of his parents Amanda Collins and Ronald Collins, Jr.

The TBI says neither of the parents have been located, but there aren't any warrants in their names at this time.

UT Freshman in Critical Condition After Early Morning Car Crash

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) -- A freshman at the University of Tennessee is in critical condition after being ejected from an SUV during a crash early Tuesday morning, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

The student, 19-year-old LiJoyce Bridges was in the car with two friends, also freshmen, heading back from a party when the SUV drove off a 150-foot embankment at the Cherokee Trail exit ramp on Alcoa Highway just after 5 a.m.

The driver, 19-year-old Walter Hills, faces drunken driving charges pending the outcome of the investigation. The other passenger, 18-year-old Kristen Molnar, was discharged from the UT Emergency room earlier.

Bridges, a business management student originally from Humboldt, Tenn., remains in critical condition at UT Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
