New Name for State Parole Agency

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- The state agency that handles parole for offenders now has a new name.

The Board of Probation and Parole became the Board of Parole on July 1. In addition to the agency having a new name, it also has one less responsibility, since the community supervision of adult offenders has been transferred to the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC).

"We’re committed to using best practices in all of our operations," Board Chairman Charles Traughber said in a statement. "Studies show offenders have more positive outcomes if they are supervised by the same agency from incarceration through completion of supervision in the community. Therefore, we support the transfer of community supervision to TDOC."
