THP Calls for Safety on the Roads as School Resume

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- With classes about to resume across the state, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is urging motorists to be cautious on the roads and look out for students using the roadways.

To ensure motorists are on their best behavior, State Troopers will be on the lookout for traffic violators, in particular those who speed in school zones and pass stopped school buses, a release from the Department of Safety said. Troopers will also be working to raise awareness on school safety in Tennessee.

The Department of Safety said in 2011 troopers issued some 3,856 citations in school zones; an increase from the 3,189 citations issued in 2010.
