Gov. Snyder Calls for Better Management and Long-Term Planning

(MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich.) -- Gov. Snyder called for better management of state government and long-term planning in a keynote address to the Detroit Regional Chamber Mackinac Policy Conference on Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The governor compared Michigan's billions of dollars in long-term liabilities to a home mortgage. He said once the state's liabilities for long-term expenses are fully funded, the additional money can be used to invest in programs or cut taxes, the paper says.

Synder also said Michigan should invest in roads, a strategy for its 4 million acres of land and a wellness strategy to help cut the state's health care costs, according to the Free Press.
