Michigan Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

(LANSING, Mich.) -- A Michigan soldier has died while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

Military officials said via a news release, that 29-year-old Staff Sgt. Matthew J. Leach, of Ferndale, Mich., died on Tuesday in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The release did not include any further details about how the serviceman died.

Leach was assigned to the 1/334th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 104th Training Division (Leader Training), Fraser, Mich.
