Schuette Disappointed with SCOTUS Health Care Ruling

(LANSING, Mich.) -- The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to uphold the so-called individual mandate requiring Americans to buy health insurance or pay a penalty -- a ruling that does not sit well with Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.
"I am deeply disappointed with this ruling by the United States Supreme Court. I am extremely concerned as well, about the impact of this decision on the personal liberties and basic Constitutional rights of Americans," Schuette said in a statement.
"If the federal government can force you to purchase a product or pay a hefty fine, there is virtually no limit to what it can compel you to do," he went on to say.
The court ruled that the mandate is unconstitutional under the Constitution's commerce clause, but it can stay as part of Congress's power under a taxing clause. The court said that the government will be allowed to tax people for not having health insurance.
