Maumelle High School Coach Arrested on Drug Charges

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- A teacher and coach at Maumelle High School has been arrested, accused of possessing illegal drugs.

Brittany Burns of North Little Rock was arrested on Thursday during a traffic stop, after leaving the school's campus. Authorities say a search of the 35-year-old woman's vehicle turned up a quantity of methamphetamine, along with prescription drugs Endocet, Percocet, Opana, Adderall and Dexedrine, according to the Arkansas News.

Burns teaches physical education and is the assistant coach of the girls basketball team.

She faces charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Interstate 30 Temporarily Closes After 18-Wheeler Wreck

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- Interstate 30 between Arkadelphia and Malvern was temporarily closed Thursday after a crash.

Arkansas Online reports that the road was closed for more than 12 hours as crews worked to clean up hazardous flammable materials that were spilled from an 18-wheeler wreck, according to Arkansas State Police.

Westbound lanes reopened for traffic at 8:30 a.m. Eastbound lanes reopened shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported.

Jefferson County Constable Shot and Killed in Road Rage Incident

(PINE BLUFF, Ark.) -- A road rage situation in Pine Bluff on Wednesday ended with a Jefferson County constable being shot and killed.

The shooting reportedly happened at the Speedway Gas Station on Camden Road. Officials say an altercation stemming from a road rage incident led to gunfire erupting between two parties, with Jefferson County constable Tommy Holcomb, Sr. being fatally shot, according to published reports.

One suspect was reportedly shot and wounded, while another person said to be involved was detained by authorities.

Coca-Cola Officials Confirm Layoffs at Little Rock Facility

(LITTLE ROCK) -- Coca-Cola officials confirmed Wednesday that they are cutting close to 50 jobs at their Little Rock plant, according to ABC affiliate KATV.

Coca-Cola is moving some of its activities in Little Rock to its facilities in West Memphis and Dallas. Company officials say they have tried to transition as many people as possible to different jobs and plants.

The company has reiterated that the restructuring is due not to the recession, but rather to increase their efficiency, KATV reports.

St. Francis County Given $1.3 Million from FEMA Since 2011 Storms

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- New figures from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reveal that nearly $1.3 million in aid has been granted to people and to public projects since 2011’s spring floods and tornados ravaged the St. Francis County region, ABC News Little Rock affiliate KATV-TV reports.

A sum of $1,284,220.06 was received locally, according to FEMA data, with the bulk of that money -- $915,465.80 -- given to individuals.

Under individual assistance, $57,732.90 was granted through the Individual and Households Program, $410,506.78 through Housing Assistance, and $47,226.12 given through Other Needs Assistance.
