Motorists Reminded to Buckle Up Over Memorial Day Holiday Period

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- With the Memorial Day holiday period approaching, and millions of people expected to be traveling across the country, Arkansas State Police is reminding travelers to buckle up.

State, county and city law enforcement agencies will be stepping up patrols from May 20, as part of the national "Click It or Ticket" seat belt enforcement campaign, stated the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office.

The campaign aims to crack down on motorists who are not using seat belts.

Betonville Community College Not Allowing Guns on Campus

(BENTONVILLE, Ark.) -- Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville has opted out of allowing concealed weapons on campus.

State law allows trained and licensed faculty and staff to carry concealed guns on college campuses, but on Monday NWACC opted not to allow such weapons on campus.

"NorthWest Arkansas Community College will not allow employees with concealed handgun permits to carry weapons on the college’s campus or at its instructional centers, the Board of Trustees decided Monday," the college said on its website.

Crews Locate Body of Missing Fisherman

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- The body of a missing fisherman has been found in the Arkansas River.

Mark Russell was reported missing after he went fishing on Tuesday and didn't return home.

Crews began searching for Russell, and on Sunday his body was located, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officials said in published reports.

Man Found Shot to Death on Little Rock Street

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- Little Rock Police are investigating the shooting death of a man that occurred early Friday morning.

Police say shortly after 5 a.m. they found a man dead laying on the roadway of 11th Street between Woodrow and Booker.

Investigators say earlier two men were at a gas station when they were approached by three suspects who demanded a ride, and got into the SUV that the two men were traveling in. The men then drove to the area of Fourth and Woodrow, when one of the victims reportedly got out and went into a home. Police say it's not clear why the victim went to the residence.

The other victim and the three suspects in the SUV then drove off, with police later finding that victim dead.

The three suspects and the SUV have not been found.

Six-Vehicle Crash Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- One person was killed in a six-vehicle crash near Hazen, Ark. on Wednesday.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of Interstate 40 near the 199 mile marker. Arkansas State Police say five tractor trailers and a mini van were involved in the collision, which left one person dead and three others injured.

The dead man has been identified as 60-year-old Carl Stark, of Crescent, Okla., according to State Police. Injured in the collision were Lianwen Lin, 48, of South Pasadena, Calif.; Eddie Sawyer, 63, of Memphis, Tenn.; and Richard Dill, 60, of East Lynn, W.Va.
