City Officials Ask Residents for Help on New Bridge Design

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- City officials are asking the public for input on the type of bridge they would like to replace the Broadway Bridge.

The campaign to discuss ideas on a new bridge will be officially launched on Friday. In addition to accepting ideas from Little Rock and North Little Rock residents, professional designers can participate in a design competition open from October 21st through November 21st.

"We're not asking our residents to actually design the bridge, but we want to find out what concepts people want to be included," says Jim McKenzie, Executive Director of Metroplan, according to ABC News affiliate KATV. "Our grandfathers built this bridge for us in 1923, and our two communities paid for it.  It was a matter of great civic pride at the time and its replacement should be seen as an opportunity for our communities to express that same level of civic pride today."
