Arkansas Tech Makes Space Arrangements for Theatre Students

(RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.) -- After safety issues recently caused the Techionery theatre workshop to be closed, Arkansas Tech University says it has made arrangements for the theatre students to continue their studies.

School officials say they have identified classroom space for classes to be held, while the Witherspoon Auditorium will be used for the 2011 fall production of Candide, which will reportedly go on as scheduled. These, along with other arrangements being made, were posted in a news release on the university's website.

The Techionery theatre workshop was reportedly closed in September, after an inspection by the Russellville Fire Department found unsafe conditions present at the facility.

With Flu Season Comes Flu Vaccines for Arkansas Students

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) -- Arkansas' Department of Health (ADH) and Department of Education are teaming up with school districts across the state to offer seasonal flu vaccines to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

"It has been shown that vaccinating our children is the best way to protect other age groups from the flu, especially the elderly population, which is more vulnerable to the most severe effects of the flu," ADH director and state health officer, Dr. Paul Halverson, said in a statement.

Vaccination is scheduled to begin in mid-October, and officials say school clinics will be operational for the next several months. Vaccines will be available in nasal mist and injectable forms.
