(HOT SPRINGS, Ark.) -- The owner of the Garland County home that was damaged by fire on Monday and in which authorities discovered 28 dead cats, has been charged.
David Smith -- an employee of the Garland County Sheriff's Office -- turned himself in on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He has been charged with 39 counts of animal cruelty and for committing rabies violations.
The blaze was reported on Monday morning at the home located on Northgate Street. Crews made the gruesome discovery of the dead cats as they worked to put out the flames. Authorities said 11 cats were also found alive at the home and have been taken to an area veterinarian for treatment.
