California Marine Killed in Afghanistan

(WASHINGTON) -- A Marine from California has been killed while serving as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, military officials said Thursday.

In a news release, the Department of Defense said 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Curtis J. Duarte, of Covina, Calif., died on Wednesday during combat operations being carried out in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Duarte was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
