Woman Caught Trying to Steal Baby from Hospital in Tote Bag

(LOS ANGELES) -- A California woman was arrested after she was allegedly caught dressed in scrubs, trying to steal a baby from a southern California hospital on Monday.

The 48-year-old suspect was reportedly clad in hospital scrubs and had a visitor's pass, when she tried to take the baby girl from the Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center in a tote bag, authorities said. The child was reportedly wearing an electronic monitor, which signalled an alarm when the woman tried to leave the hospital with the newborn.

A hospital employee heard the alarm and confronted the suspect, holding her until the authorities arrived.
