(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- Tennessee’s college campuses were slightly more dangerous in 2011, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's annual "Crime on Campus" statistical report released Wednesday.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that there were 7,493 crimes reported in 2011— a 4.2 percent increase from 2010.

The report cites that drugs may be to blame for the increase of criminal activity across Tennessee’s colleges and universities.

There was a 25.7 percent increase in drug offenses statewide from 2010. The University of Tennessee reported the largest drug offense increase of about 70 percent in 2011 from 2010.
