State Passes Legislation to Drug Test Welfare Applicants

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- The Tennessee legislature approved a bill Tuesday that will require new welfare applicants to be drug tested if the state suspects drug abuse.

Under the proposed legislation, the state will conduct a new applicant-screening process for potential recipients and will have the authority to implement a drug test if the state deems it necessary.

The bill has already passed through the Senate and will now head to the governor's desk to be signed.
