Tennessee Walking Horse Group Opposes USDA Rules

(SHELBYVILLE, Tenn.) -- SHOW, the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration's industry inspector group, spoke out Wednesday night against the U.S. Department of Agriculture's effort to decertify them, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports.

The group, which says its entire objective is to protect horses, does not want to incorporate the USDA's new stricter penalties for horse soring, which is the practice of using painful chemicals or objects to exaggerate the gait of walking horses.

SHOW released a statement that said the group will defend its actions to the USDA. The statement also said the group's inspectors will continue to inspect the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.
