Haslam Issues New Order on Ethics Disclosures, Keeps His Meetings Secret
(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) -- Gov. Bill Haslam recently issued a a new executive order on "ethics policy and disclosures," in the executive branch of state government, but his own governor's meetings remain a secret, the Commercial Appeal reports.
A gubernatorial spokesman said that Executive Order No. 20 combined the two previous orders into a single executive order, and told reporters in an email that it doesn't significantly change the manner in which ethics policy or disclosure is presently carried out. The Haslam order requires officials to disclose major sources of income, but not the amount, which follows general state law, the paper says.
The governor, however, has raised some eyebrows by keeping a list of private meetings aside from the public schedule of events he issues weekly. When TNReport requested copies of Gov. Haslam's private meeting schedule from his inauguaration through June 30. He refused the request, according to the Commercial Appeal.
