Tennessee Ranks Third in Nation for Women Killed by Men

(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) – Tennessee is among the top ten states in the nation in the rate of women murdered by men in 2010, according to a study released by the Violence Policy Center.

The report showed that Tennessee ranked third, with a rate of 1.91 female homicides involving one female murder victim and one male offender per 100,000. The study used the most recent data available from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's unpublished Supplementary Homicide Report, which is released annually to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Nationwide, there were 1,800 single victim/single offender female homicides in 2010, resulting in a countrywide rate of 1.22 per 100,000.
