Six Tennessee Schools Get Blue Ribbon Award
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- Six Tennessee schools have been named among the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
National Blue Ribbon awards are distributed to public and private schools across the country by the U.S. Department of Education, in recognition of the schools' "overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels," according to the department's website.
A total of 269 schools were chosen to receive Blue Ribbon awards in 2012, and those schools will each receive $2,500 and be feted at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 12 and 13.
The Tennessee schools selected are: Cascade Elementary (Bedford County); E.E. Jeter Elementary (Shelby County); Glenwood Elementary (Oak Ridge); John Hay Elementary (Hamblen County); Merrol Hyde Magnet School (Sumner County); and The Discovery School at Reeves Rogers (Murfreesboro).
