It's official -- Americans want Sex. That is, Madonna's 1992 coffee table book Sex. The tome has once again topped BookFinder.com's annual list of the most sought-after out-of-print books in America. The BookFinder.com website tracks searches for out-of-print titles, and has now issued a report based on the past 12 months of data. Sex is #1 on the list, and the site describes it as a "nearly perennial number one."
When Sex was released, it shocked the world, because it featured softcore pornographic pictures of Madonna completely nude and posed in various sexual positions and situations, along with actress Isabelli Rossellini, model Naomi Campbell, rappers Vanilla Ice and Big Daddy Kane, and others. Many bookstores refused to carry it, and some organizations sought to ban it. It came in a special mylar package that kept curious consumers from thumbing through the book in the store -- you had to actually purchase it to see what was inside. Since it went out of print, unopened copies of the book have been sold for as much as $150 on eBay.com.
Other out-of-print books on the list include titles by Stephen King, Nora Roberts, Ray Bradbury and CS Lewis.
