Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images for Dolce & GabbanaHow powerful is Justin Bieber's Twitter account? So powerful that it's literally compelled more than a thousand people to give away their body parts.
It all started last week when a young woman from Ottawa named Helena Campbell, who's awaiting a lung transplant, asked Justin via Twitter to retweet her request for organ donors. Justin responded to her request on Saturday, tweeting "i got the word...you have amazing strength. I got u. #BeAnOrganDonor." According to The Hollywood Reporter, by Sunday, BeADonor.ca, the website of the Trillium Gift of Life Network, reported 565 new donors. By Tuesday, the new online donor registration tally had reached a thousand, as Trillium announced on its Facebook page.
The organization's Facebook posting added, "If you didn't believe in the power of Twitter before..." Meanwhile, Helena has posted a video online thanking Justin for his support, and sent him a tweet saying, "You have made a huge impact, not only on my life, but for many others in need of the gift of life now and in the future."
