Locals Pushing For Beyonce Monument in Houston
ABC/Donna SvennevikWhen Beyonce's off traveling the world, we're sure that a little bit of her heart is always in her hometown of Houston. Now there's a chance that Bey's presence could be there permanently --- in the form of a monument. According to My Fox Houston, two locals have launched an effort to build a monument to the singer in the Bayou City.
"Our biggest thing is a lot of people get honored when they die, so our goal is to why not honor people why they're still here? We felt as though it’s her time to be honored," said Marcus Mitchell, who together with Steve White and their company Armdeonce Ventures is pushing the idea. The pair say they have the support of the city's mayor and are looking for a location and private donors for their ambitious project.
"We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you'll have a separate nameplate,” Marcus says. "There will be clips of Beyonce with Destiny’s Child and wardrobe like a mini museum."
The guys hope is to unveil the site on Bey's birthday, September 4, and they say a portion of the proceeds generated by the monument would benefit organizations like Music for America, Beyonce's Survivor foundation and the Grammy Cares foundation.
