Hey, remember when Ad Age named Rihanna's campaign for Armani the sexiest ad of 2011? So do a lot of people -- but the problem is, it never happened.
Despite the story being repeated by numerous media outlets -- from the Huffington Post to StyleBistro.com to FashionEtc.com to GlobalGrind.com to the International Business Times, and being retweeted by Rihanna herself -- Ad Age itself insists that it never ran a survey naming her Armani ad the sexiest of 2011. But due to the attention that the story got, the publication writes, "We kind of wish we'd done one."
While researching where the story came from, Ad Age found that it seemed to have originated with the British tabloid the Daily Mail -- its reporting of the story was apparently where all the other websites and newspapers got their information. So where did the Daily Mail get the story? The paper told Ad Age they got a press release from some outfit called TNI Press Ltd. Ad Age has tried contacting TNI to find out where they got the Rihanna story, with no response. So your guess is as good as theirs.
