Revised release plans have been announced for a limited-edition replica vinyl version of The Beatles' first single, "Love Me Do" backed with "P.S. I Love You," in honor of the 50th anniversary of its release in the U.K. The 7-inch disc originally was scheduled to hit stores on October 5, the single's actual golden anniversary, but it now will be available starting on October 22.
The retro-looking 45 rpm single comes in a sleeve that's a facsimile of the original Parlophone label packaging. The audio of the tunes is taken from the Fab Four's 2009 mono remasters.
The Beatles' 1962 "Love Me Do" single boasts a version of the song that was recorded on September 4, 1962, and features Ringo Starr on drums. Another version of the tune featuring session musician Andy White on drums and Starr on tambourine was recorded a week later. The latter rendition was included on The Beatles' debut U.K. album, Please Please Me, which subsequently was issued in the U.S. as Introducing The Beatles.
