A new documentary about Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne will get its television debut this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on the Palladia cable network. Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO features the acclaimed musician and producer discussing his long and varied career, and also boasts interviews with some of Lynne's famous friends and collaborators -- including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty and Joe Walsh.
Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO also will air on VH1 Classic starting on Wednesday, while encore screenings will be scheduled throughout October on both Palladia and VH1 Classic.
The movie's debut coincides with the release of two new albums from Lynne that will hit stores on Tuesday, October 9. Long Wave features versions of a dozen songs that influenced Lynne's musical tastes when he was growing up, while Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra offers updated versions of many ELO classics, as well as a previously unreleased tune titled "The Point of No Return." New videos for the Long Wave song "Mercy, Mercy" and the Mr. Blue Sky album's title track both are viewable now online.
Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO was given its first public screening on September 12 at an event hosted by the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Lynne was in attendance at the premiere, as were Petty, Walsh, Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, Gary Wright, famed session drummer Jim Keltner, and George Harrison's widow, Olivia.
