Barbara Walters Says Mariah Carey Has Hired Extra Security Due to Nicki Threat; Nicki Denies Accusations on Twitter
The feud continues between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. The rapper was captured on video by TMZ cursing at Mariah on the set of American Idol, but now here are more serious accusations -- and ABC's Barbara Walters, believe it or not, is right in the middle of the dispute.
Appearing on ABC's The View on Thursday, Walters told the audience that she had spoken to Mariah about the incident, and said that Mariah told her that Nicki did much more than curse at her.
"[Mariah] said that when Nicki walked off the set multiple people heard Nicki say, 'If I had a gun I would shoot the b***h,'" Barbara said, reading from her notes on their conversation. She continued, "At this point, Mariah said, she 'doesn't feel conformable emotionally,' but she will continue with the show because she loves the show and she loves mentoring the contestants."
Walters' description of Mariah's accusation comes a day after Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe denied to TMZ that Nicki threatened Mariah, saying, "The statement [that Nicki made a death threat to Mariah] is absolute rubbish. It's absolutely not true in any way, shape or form."
On The View, Barbara continued, "[Mariah] doesn't feel that anything would happen -- I'm quoting now -- 'But Nicki is unpredictable' and Mariah says she can't take a chance and she has hired extra security. Nicki has not apologized, but they have since been together in meetings with producers and judges."
Barbara also revealed, "Nicki said to Mariah, 'I love you but we may fight again.' Mariah responded, 'No, we will not.'"
Hours after the show aired, Nicki responded to Mariah's accusations via Twitter, writing, "I thought we resolved it yesterday but I see u want ur pity party to continue....I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave."
She then tweeted what she claims was the thinking behind Mariah's decision to spill to Walters about the incident. "'Lets just say nicki said something about a gun,'" she wrote. "People will believe it cuz she's a black rapper....I'll then hit up Barbara n milk it.'"
But, Nicki pointed out, "Ironically no camera or mic heard the gun comment tho....Not even the producers believed u." Nicki also threatened to "pour" or "spill the tea," intimating that she was threatening to reveal secrets about what actually went on between her and Mariah.
The new season of American Idol debuts in January. Will the panel, which also includes Randy Jackson and country star Keith Urban, still be intact by then? Stay tuned.
