Michael Buble Welcomes Rod Stewart, Carly Rae Jepsen & Blake Shelton to Christmas Special

Chris Large/NBC) LessEditLast year, Michael Buble starred in his first-ever holiday TV special on NBC. This year, he's returning with a brand-new special, and with plans to make it an annual event.

Michael Buble: Home for the Holidays, filmed in the singer's hometown of Vancouver, Canada, airs Monday night at 10 p.m.  What's on tap for this year's special?  Overall, Michael says his goal for Home for the Holidays was simple.  "I wanted it to be genuinely fun, a good time.  I didn't want it to be tight or too corny or not corny enough," he explains. "You know, I wanted to have great guests that could really span the gap."  And that he did, by lining up Rod Stewart, Carly Rae Jepsen, Blake Shelton and Elmo to make appearances.

Michael says he'll be performing "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and "Jingle Bell Rock" with Carly Rae, who he calls "a great singer."  With Rod, he'll croon "Winter Wonderland," and, thanks to the magic of special effects, he'll also sing "White Christmas" with one of his idols, Bing Crosby.

In addition, Michael and his buddy Blake will duet on "Home," a song that Michael wrote and with which both men have scored a hit.  This is a special Christmas version of the song with new lyrics, and Michael says he was "thrilled" to rewrite the tune so he and Blake could sing it together.

"He's just a great friend," Michael says of the Voice coach. "I mean, he's exactly what you think he is.  He's a wonderful, funny, humble, charismatic, incredibly talented, smart guy and it's great to count him as a buddy."

Shooting the special in Vancouver was a real treat, says Michael, adding, "I'm so proud of it here.  You know, I'm proud of my culture and my country and my beautiful city.  So, it was really cool to be able to come here and do it in front of friends and family."  Fellow Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen was also glad the special was shot in her home country.

"It's really exciting for me 'cause not only do I get to be a part of the show but I get to come back to Canada and be at home for a little while [and] see the family," she says.  "I am a big lover of Christmas and it's so exciting to get to sing some songs, see Rod Stewart, see Michael sing, and be a part of [it]."

Michael says if you enjoy Michael Buble: Home for the Holidays this year, there will be more to come.  "It's been wonderful to be...part of the fabric of an American Christmas and...to be invited into people's homes is really special to me," he says.  "And every year, I wanna take you to a new place.  So, last year was New York. This year, of course, is Vancouver, and, who knows? Next year might be Las Vegas or even Hawaii."
